Drywall

Purpose: To ensure our drywall team can complete drywall jobs with quality, speed and cleanliness.

Drywall Prep and Hang

  1. Stage tools and materials. Stage drywall sheets, screws, tape, mud, corner bead and tools in one area.

  2. Inspect the framing. All framing should be 16” or 24” on center and should have all necessary backer. Inspect clockwise around each room to make sure they are free from nails or screws.

  3. Inspect the plumbing, HVAC, electrical and insulation. Ensure the plumbing, HVAC, electrical and insulation are done and have been properly inspected.

  4. Take before pictures. Take pictures of every wall and ceiling and upload to Monday.

  5. Mark the stud locations.

  6. Hang the ceiling drywall. The boards should be staggered perpendicular to the ceiling joists and should be installed with glue and screws. Keep factory edges together. Cut out any electrical boxes, heating vents or plumbing penetrations

  7. Hang the wall drywall. The boards should be staggered and installed with screws 12” apart. Install clockwise, top to bottom, and ensure each wall and corner is straight and clean. Cut out any electrical boxes, heating vents or plumbing penetrations.

  8. Screw in corner beads. Cut down, bend and screw in any corner beads.

  9. Clean up. Clean up any drywall debris and dispose of it.

Drywall Finish

  1. Prep the area. If necessary, plastic off the area and vents and set up the negative air system.

  2. Set up the mixing station. Set up the mixing station with a tarp, mixer, bucket of water and sponge.

  3. Mix the mud. Mix the mud into a peanut butter like consistency. (For third coat, mix to an almost water like consistency)

  4. 1st Coat - Tape and mud the seams by working clockwise. Starting in the corners and then do all the butt joints and screws. Wait 24 hours until dry.

  5. 2nd Coat - Fill the seams and feather the edges by working clockwise. Starting in the corners and then do all the butt joints and screws. Wait 24 hours until dry.

  6. Sand the drywall. Turn on the negative air system. Using the drywall sander sand all seams. Hand sand all the corners.

  7. Inspect the drywall. Inspect for any ridges, gouges, bubbles or missed screws.

  8. 3rd Coat - Apply a thin watery coat by working clockwise. Starting in the corners and then do all the butt joints and screws.

  9. Final Sand. Using a hand sander, sand down all the ceilings and the walls. Run your hand over them to ensure a smooth finish.

  10. Clean up. Scrap and vacuum any dust on the floor, outlets, etc. Mop or wipe down any remaining dust.

Quality Check

  1. Bring in light. Inspect the walls.

  2. Inspect for issues

    1. No wires, outlets, plumbing or vents have been covered.

    2. No mud in the electrical boxes or vents.

  3. Inspect for quality

    1. Walls and ceiling plumbing and square in cabinet area

    2. Walls smooth and flat

    3. All corners free from pocket marks

    4. All ceilings and walls free from ridges or pocket markets

    5. All corner bead smooth and flat

  4. Inspect for cleanliness

    1. All drywall cleaned from outlets, floors, etc

    2. All dust vacuumed up

    3. No additional issues

  5. Take after pictures. Take pictures and upload to Monday.
